Salsa Caliente is holding it’s annual salsa competition and dance to help the team raise money to represent Canada at the Puerto Rico & New York Salsa Congresses.

Everyone is encouraged to enter the competition which is open to amateur dancers. Couples must register in advance by emailing calientedance@gmail.com and must come prepared with their own music and routine no more then 2 minutes long. There will be prizes for 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place and the winners will qualify to compete at the Portland Salsa Congress June 10- 13. The competition will be judged on the following criteria:

TIMING- 40 points
You can dance on any beat, any style you like, as long as your timing is consistent throughout.
APPEARANCE (Includes costumes)- 10 points
We strongly suggest tasteful, colorful, matching costumes.
STYLE & TECHNIQUE- 10 Points
You will be judged on styling & technique and how they match your routine and music.
PARTNERING- 10 Points
Leading & following are what this category is about. We are looking for you well you dance as a couple.
CHOREOGRAPHY- 10 Points
We will be judging the originality, creativity and difficulty of your choreography and how well you interpreted the music.
OVERALL PRESENTATION- 10 Points
We are looking for stage presence and overall cleanliness of the presentation.
POINTS FOR AUDIENCE REACTION- 10 points
Judges may also award up to 10 points for audience reaction.
