TRAINING TEAM

CARMELA RODRIGUEZ
Carmela was first lured into the world of Salsa by a friend a few years ago.  At the time, her fencing training schedule prevented her from pursuing it any further, but the impressions were left with her ever since.  Finally in 2007 she started taking lessons and her love for the dance grew with every class.  After watching a couple dancing “On 2” she became interested in learning the differences between the styles and enrolled in
¡SALSA CALIENTE!’s Performance Training Class.  “Once I heard the words Puerto Rico, New York and Salsa together in the same sentence, I was done.  What could be better than touring the world to dance for days?”  Carmela is excited to be on the Training Team and looks forward to increasing her experience and discovering Salsa on whole new levels.

JASEN LAVEAU
Jasen started dancing Salsa in 2003, after observing couples dancing during a performance by a Cuban band at local Latin-Caribbean festival. He had always been "moved" by the emotion of the music, but now he realized there was a possibility he could actually learn how to transform that emotion to physical movement that could be easily shared with others.  Jasen's first Salsa classes were in "Cuban-style" and in 2005/06 he performed Rueda de Casino routines at local and regional festivals, as a member of Salsa Moderna.  After his first couple of months of "Cuban-style" Salsa lessons, he started taking classes from other teachers to expand his repertoire. Since "LA-Style" was the dominant style danced locally, he started to focus more of his energy to learning "On1".  "I am excited to be a part of the
¡SALSA CALIENTE! team because I have a passion for dancing Salsa, and am excited to have the opportunity to travel to events with others that share that passion."

JULIE ROBERTS
Julie is a Salsa Addict. For the longest time, she just thought that she had been Cuban in a previous life. She  currently feeds her addiction by dancing with
¡SALSA CALIENTE! and can be found either rehearsing with the group, dancing in her living room or in the car with Salsa music blaring. "The energy of the various instruments, the hilarity of the lyrics and the sensuality of the movements infuse my soul with pure joy."

KARIS FISHER
Dance has always been a huge part of Karis’ life. At age 4 she started ballet and modern from there went on to take classes in Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre. Karis has competed in various competitions throughout Alberta with her home dance academy where she has danced for 14 years. Coming from a smaller city, Karis never had the opportunity to take any Latin dance classes and with her move to Victoria, British Columbia she sought to become a member of the local dance community. She joined the UVIC Ballroom Dance club and it was there that Karis met Christina and decided to audition for
¡SALSA CALIENTE! “I’m thrilled to be a part of such a great team and I look forward to learning as much as I possibly can about such an exciting form of dance!”

LIAM ANDERSON
Liam has been dancing Salsa since 2006.  He was first "dragged" out to a Salsa lesson by a friend, only to discover a passion for the music and the dance.  Liam was a member of the
¡SALSA CALIENTE! Training Team for one year, and is really excited to be able to perform with the Touring Team.  "I can't wait to continue to improve my Salsa and to experience Salsa around the world!"

NICOLE MICHEL
After taking a single Salsa class when she was living in Prince George, Nicole was eager to learn more. She started taking regular dance classes in 2006 when she moved to Victoria and has not stopped! In 2007 Nicole was a part of the
¡SALSA CALIENTE! Local Performance Team and is now loving her role in the Training Team. “I am excited about the thought of being able to do multiple things that I love at the same time – travel, dance and meet fantastic people!”

SUZANNE STIRLING
Suzanne has been social dancing for four years while living and studying abroad in Spain, Cuba and Mexico. She danced Tango in 2006 and in 2007 worked in a Salsa band in Mexico, playing trumpet.  "Salsa is a music and dance that moves my soul. I am very excited to be on the team this year to get a chance to learn, improve my skills and work with such a talented group of dancers."

TYLER LOZOWCHUK
Tyler's love for Salsa started in 2005 when he joined
¡SALSA CALIENTE!'s Youth Team. Through the Youth Team he performed at several local shows and competed in an all ages Salsa competition. "The enjoyment of being a competitor sparked my interest in joining the Training Team, to learn as much as possible and travel."
