CLAIRE LAN Claire has always enjoyed dancing, and tried ballroom and flamenco when she was still in school. She saw some salsa performances at a festival couple years ago and was really impressed by its energy and technique. Since moving back to Victoria in 2009, she started taking classes with Salsa Caliente and has been enjoying it ever since. "I am looking forward to learning and having fun with the Local Team this year!" |

DOMINIQUE LACERTE In 2001 Dominique was introduced to dance through a local Swing event and he enjoyed it so much he jumped in (two left) feet first. What followed were several intense years of classes, performances and even a few competitions in Swing and Salsa. Dominique has been a member of Salsa Caliente for many years performing locally and abroad and greatly enjoys the opportunity to share his love of dance with others. |

GORD COONEY For the past two years Gord has been (sporadically) taking salsa classes in order to no longer appear like a spastic hippopotomus while dancing. Although he feels he is a long way away from his goal, Gord has been seeing improvement. "At this stage I feel more like a clumsy ox than a demented hippo when dancing", he says. With a few more years of work and perhaps an operation or two (in order to get one left foot and one right foot instead of two hooves), he believes he'll perservere! Gord is also a firm believer in replacing talent with a sense of humour, as he has none of the first, and a bit too much of the second! |

KEITH MYLER Meet Keith and you will quickly discover his new passion for dance and a hint of an Irish brogue. Hailing from the Canada’s East Coast, he grew up accustomed to Newfoundland and Labrador traditional folk dance with the sounds of the accordion, the fiddle, maybe a set of spoons and an ugly stick. Now residing with his family here on this great island, Keith initially ventured into the world of Ballroom dance in 2008 and then began to further expand his repertoire with Salsa and other social dance styles in 2009. Keith has since auditioned with the Caliente Dance Co. leading to training and performing with the Salsa Caliente Local Performance 2010 Team. “Recreational dance has become one of my favorite aerobic fitness activities. With many enriching benefits for the mind, body and soul, my overall health has never been better, it’s a great way to meet people and is simply pure fun!” |

MATT MCCORMICK Matt has taken a few dance classes on and off for the past few years but became more serious about salsa dancing in 2009. Since he sits at a computer all day for work, he enjoys salsa dancing since it is completely different from programming. He is on the 2010 Salsa Caliente Local Team and is looking forward to having a great year! |

MELISSA PUCKETT Melissa's passion for dance began in the 1980s at the age of 4. Her inspiration is still evident today when she wears her sunglasses at night and moonwalks randomly during the day. When Melissa decided to try different styles of dance, she chose jazz for the legwarmers, ballet because she wanted lace like Madonna, and the bird dance because she loved the Flock of Seagulls. Recently, Melissa took up ballroom as well because she heard Emilio Estevez and Kirk Cameron were trying out for Dancing With the Stars. For the past two years, Melissa has taken up salsa to help cure a rather spastic hippopotamus and hasn’t looked back since. This is her first year in a performance group and she absolutely loves it. She’s a trooper and is here for a good time and is sure the best is yet to come. |
