CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


5 WEEK SERIES Tuesdays PART 2 August 19, 26, Sept 2, 9, 16 PART 3 Sept 23, 30, Oct 7, 14, 21 PART 1 Oct 28, Nov 4, 11, 18, 25 6:00- 7:00pm Cafe Casablanca 2524 Bridge St $40 in advance for 5 week series, $10 drop in, $45 for 5 class card		NY style Salsa (mambo) is danced to the rhythm of the congas and the techniques used allow for quick turns and direction changes, complex partner patterns and more body movement while dancing on a crowded dance floor. This class will introduce you to the essentials by starting with the basic steps and moving through to basic partner combinations. Learn to move your body to the rhythm of Latin music and practice leading and following techniques. Perfect for brand new dancers and experienced ON 1 dancers looking to have the difference in styles explained to them. No dance experience required! Part 1, 2 & 3 do not have to be taken in any specific order, but all must be completed to move to Intermediate.


5 WEEK SERIES Thursdays PART 1 July 31, Aug 7, 14, 21, 28 PART 2 Sept 4, 11, 28, 25, Oct 2 PART 3 Oct 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov 6 9:00- 10:00pm Cafe Casablanca 2524 Bridge St $40 in advance for 5 week series, $10 drop in, $45 for 5 class card		LA Style Salsa is one of the newest forms of salsa having been developed in the late 1990’s with a strong Hollywood influence. This style is characterized by large, flashy moves and is based on variations on the Crossbody Lead. This class will introduce you to the essentials by starting with the basic steps and moving through to basic partner combinations. Learn to move your body to the rhythm of Latin music and practice leading and following techniques to get you ready to move to the next level. No dance experience required. Part 1, 2 & 3 do not have to be taken in any specific order, but all must be completed to move to Intermediate.


Mondays 5:30- 7:30pm Cafe Casablanca 2524 Bridge St $10 per rehearsal		Victoria's only youth salsa performance group! We will introduce you to the essentials of salsa dancing starting with the basic steps and moving through to partner combinations. Learn to move your body to the rhythm of Latin music and practice leading and following techniques. Learn about the musicians and dancers that made salsa what it is today. When you are ready we will learn choreography to be performed at local festivals and special events. No dance experience or audition required! Must be 21 or younger.


Wednesdays 5:30- 6:30pm Cafe Casablanca 2524 Bridge St $8 per rehearsal		Local performance group with rehearsals once a week. If you have never performed before or have a limited amount of time you are able to commit to, this is the team for you. Learn exciting choreographies to perform at local events with no pressure to perform until you feel ready. No dance experience or audition required!


Fridays 5:30- 6:30pm Cafe Casablanca 2524 Bridge St $10 drop in, $45 for 5 class card		Add elegance, femininity and style to your dancing! Learn how to incorporate styling in your partner dancing without interrupting the lead and what to do when your partner lets go of you for an open shine. Improve the fluidity and ease of your following by working on posture, balance, following technique and spinning. Gain confidence by knowing how to add body and hip movements, arm and hand styling and how to play with the music. This fun, ladies only class is sure to boost your level and leave you shining on the dance floor. No dance experience required!


Saturdays Sept 6, 27 8:30- 9:30pm Cafe Casablanca 2524 Bridge St $7 including dance after		This workshop will introduce you to the essentials of salsa. We start with the basic steps and move through to a basic partner combination. Depending on the level of the class, an intermediate and advanced version of the combination may also be shown. Get ready to dance the night away! No dance experience required.

Wednesdays 10 week series Sept 17- Nov 19 8:00- 10:00pm Club Phoenix 2122A Government St- Aerobics Room $150 for the series- no drop in allowed Team auditions will be held at the end of November.		GET READY TO AUDITION FOR THE INTERNATIONALLY TOURING & LOCAL GROUPS *Ever dreamt of being part of a touring dance group?* Ever imagined yourself on an international stage? Ever wanted to improve your dancing while having fun? Class includes footwork, partnerwork, social dancing, stage presence, choreography and a practice audition. 2008 was a really exciting season for ¡SALSA CALIENTE! We traveled to the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress in July, and are on our way to the New York Salsa Congress in August and a ten day tour of Italy in November. For the 2009 season we are already officially confirmed to return to Puerto Rico and we are also working New York and China. In the past we have toured to Atlanta, Chicago, Toronto, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Mexico and Italy. Requirements: A passion for dance, a willingness to learn & work hard, a positive attitude, the ability to work as part of a close group, a strong sense of commitment, good style, stage presence and ability to follow. No dance experience or partner required.
